Jahlil Okafor Had Gun Pointed At Him In October Altercation
The news comes days after he was involved in a fight in the streets of Boston on Wednesday night, that was caught on video.
Boston police said they are investigating the allegations.
Okafor was stopped by police on the Ben Franklin Bridge about three weeks ago for going 108 miles per hour, The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Okafor allegedly punched the victim with a closed fist and knocked him to the ground after an argument.
In a video by TMZ, it can be seen that Okafor was exchanging tirades with an unknown person and things got worse after that.
The 19-year-old had 11 points and six rebounds in Friday’s loss to the Houston Rockets.
Okafor claims the man initiated the incident by heckling him and Sixers teammate Christian Wood about their team’s winless record, philly.com reported. There appears to be no immediate penalty for Jahlil Okafor, who was selected third overall in the 2015 National Basketball Association draft.
Okafor has yet to address the altercation from October, but according to the Philadelphia Enquirer “federal officers” did witness the altercation outside of the Philadelphia night club. [I am] still dealing with the league and the team.
“The embarrassment of what I did because that’s not who I am”, Okafor added. I’m not happy about it at all. “But we are still going through the process of what we are going to do”.
Okafor said the embarrassment is the toughest part about the situation. The 76ers have said they are aware of both ongoing investigations and have declined further official comment pending their resolution.
“So it does get a little frustrating to hear it all the time that we are 0-and-whatever”.
The 76ers lost their final 10 games last season to finish 18-64 and have now dropped their first 17 games this season.
The Sixers don’t have a curfew but the team asks players to make responsible decisions, Brown said.
