Jahlil Okafor Is Embarrassed With Actions
Philadelphia 76ers rookie center Jahlil Okafor got into an altercation outside a Boston nightclub earlier this week, according to TMZ Sports, which released video of the incident Thursday.
A man told police yesterday that he had been punched and pushed at about 2 a.m. Thursday outside the Storyville Nightclub by a man “believed to be Okafor”, police said.
The victim also told police the women declined to give their phone numbers which resulted in a verbal dispute between him and one of the suspects. Eventually, however, the victim said Okafor broke free and began pushing and punching him, knocking him to the ground.
After initially waiting for a complaint, Boston police say they are now investigating the fight between Sixers rookie and a fan, according to reports.
Okafor says he’s embarrassed about the scuffle and is dealing with the team and league on possible discipline. “There is a process going on and I’m not allowed to talk about it. I’m sorry”.
The 76ers and the National Basketball Association said in separate statements that they were aware of the altercation and were investigating the incident.
Okafor is averaging a team-high 18 points with 7.9 rebounds in 17 games. “You’ll never win a game, ‘” a source close to Okafor told ESPN’s Jeff Goodman. Okafor is reported to be in the lineup.
A recently uncovered report, however, shows that this wasn’t Okafor’s first incident since joining the 76ers.
“We are all staying together, working extremely hard”, he said.
Police said they are “actively reviewing” the case and no charges have been filed.
“People were just making fun of how we’ve been losing and I did the dumb thing and reacted to it”, Okafor said.
A few hours later, the Sixers fell to the Houston Rockets, 116-114, to remain winless on the season. “Until that time, we will have no further comment”, Sixers spokesman Michael Preston said in an email statement to WBZ.
