Jail releases more footage of Sandra Bland before her death
Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw has confirmed he will testify at the hearing, along with Limestone County Sheriff Dennis Wilson, who has for years voiced concerns about problems facing Texas jails.
He did not immediately return a request for comment.
According to the jail’s documents, Bland requested Alleve twice but she did not request any other medications. Authorities said that is completely false.
The stop escalated into a verbal altercation after Encinia asked Bland to put out a cigarette and she refused.

Waller County authorities released more video Tuesday of Sandra Bland during her three days in jail. Earlier, we posted a video of her arriving at the jail and having her mugshot taken. In one voicemail she was heard telling a friend that she did not know how a traffic stop turned into time in jail.
Bland was found hanging in her jail cell on the morning of July 13, with a plastic trash bag around her neck. In parts of the footage, the video was looped while the officer’s audio continued uninterrupted.
The case has become the focus of national and worldwide attention, with activists saying the incident – during which the arresting officer was caught on dash cam footage threatening to use a stun gun on her – is yet another example of police brutality directed toward black Americans. In Chicago, more than 100 people gathered downtown Tuesday night for a vigil and protest. Sharon Cooper, the sister of Sandra Bland, recently told Democracy Nowthat she cannot speak on the latest reports supporting the claim that Bland committed suicide, because her family has not seen the documents themselves.
A toxicology report shows the level of THC in her system was three times the legal limit for driving.
“And again on social media there was speculation that these photos were taken intentionally dark to hide the fact that she was deceased”, DuHon said. He said there’s no recent history of drug seizures there but noted things get smuggled into jails everywhere.
The committee members – Houston attorneys Lewis White and Darrell Jordan are the only two named so far – will be able to independently examine all evidence Mathis’ office is reviewing. ‘But our job is to get answers.
He concluded, “It’s a bigger commentary on the age we live in, when information is demanded immediately, and if it’s not received, then people go to make up their own story”.
