Jaitely rejects Sawamy allegations, backs CEA Arvind Subramanian
“Subramaniam Swami now guns for Arvind Subramanian Economic Advisor to NDA. The Prime Minister should act against either Swamy or the CEA as per the situation”, he said. “Trojan horses galore in MoF/Fin Institutions”. “He (Arvind) used to work in America, don’t even know if he’s a citizen or not but I’m sure he has a green card (sic)”, Swamy reportedly told news agency ANI.
Swamy didn’t mention then that he has found another target.
“Since the issue involved a key official, the Prime Minister should himself clarify whether the charges levelled are false”.
“Let him say what he wants….”
Mr Rajan’s decision to quit the central bank is attributed partly to the fact that the government made no strong condemnation of Mr Swamy’s attacks on him.
Swamy had also criticised Rajan, accusing the RBI Governor of derailing the Indian economy by keeping the lending rates high. “The party has said that they don’t share Dr Swamy’s view”. There he said in a statement that India was not working according to America in this matter and for that, they should be taught a lesson in WTO.
On Wednesday, Jaitley had publicly cautioned against the trend of political attacks on persons whose office and discipline constrained them from responding. A senior BJP leader said many names floating around of people “sympathetic” to “swadeshi” thinking are very unlikely candidates.
Jaitley defends his men from Swamy’s attacks.
As opposition Congress saw Swamy’s real target in Jaitley, IT and Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad responded saying, “integrity of Arun Jaitley is impeccable. His transparency and integrity is unquestionable”. He said that the government stands by Subramanian and suggested that there was no question of him being removed. The CEA is also said to be among the candidates being considered for RBI governor.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today defended Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das after BJP MP Subramanian Swamy’s continued tirade against the disciplined civil servant of his ministry.
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy Thursday raised questions seeking details of the process of admission by which Delhi Chief Minister got into IIT-Kharagpur of Delhi in the 1980s from where he was awarded B Tech (Hons) degree.
There are many MPs, can’t gag everyone: Venkaiah Naidu. Government has not said anything.the question is that you can not gag everybody in democracy.
“What Jaitley says or does not say, I have nothing to do with it”.
