Jamar Clark shooting: Officers’ names released
North Minneapolis activists say they will continue their 4th Precinct campout until the public can view the videos, which come from a variety of sources.
More than 200 people are at the Fourth Precinct chanting “Jamar Clark Matters”.
Hours after the names were released, which demonstrators had been demanding for days, officers lined up outside of a northside precinct where protesters set up camp.
The paramedics called for police help, and two Minneapolis officers arrived and tried to calm the suspect, the Police Department said in a statement after the shooting. She said police have no plans to pull down a few 18 tents or stop protests as long as they are peaceful.
Protesters are asking anyone with video of the shooting to give it to them, but investigators say this could hurt the investigation.
Protesters of the Jamar Clark shooting say they were “pleasantly surprised” Wednesday night when they knocked on the door of Mayor Betsy Hodges’ home and her husband let them in.
Mr Clark was fatally shot by Minneapolis police after officers responded to a report of domestic violence, with several witnesses who were in the area saying that Mr Clark was unarmed and possibly handcuffed when he was shot in the head.
Tensions are high and the group Black Lives Matter is calling its supporters down to the scene. Police initially said he wasn’t handcuffed, and the president of the Minneapolis police union, Lt. Bob Kroll, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Clark was “disarming” the officer and was not handcuffed.
State law makes data collected by the law enforcement for an active criminal investigation private.
Shwarze was an officer in Richfield for nearly six years.
According to court documents, Ringennberg and another San Diego officer were accused of using excessive force in 2012. The man’s federal civil rights lawsuit was settled. “At a few point during an altercation that ensued between the officers and Mr. Clark, an officer discharged his weapon, striking Mr. Clark”, state authorities said.
Police said there was a scuffle, and Clark was shot.
Police Chief Janee Harteau was on the scene and said the decision to break up the protesters’ presence was made after her department received numerous complaints.
Police have video of portions of the incident and maintain Clark was not handcuffed when he was shot. Their brother, Jamar Clark, was shot and killed… Police arrested 51 people on various minor charges. The crowd of more than 250 shouted slogans like “No justice, no peace”.
Accounts from a few witnesses that the man was handcuffed when he was shot sparked outrage. And they say Clark, a suspect in that assault, was interfering with emergency workers trying to treat the victim.
Minneapolis Police tweeted that at least one officer was also hit with irritant sprayed from the crowd.
KSTP reported that a few protesters poured milk on their faces after coming in contact with the chemical irritant that police used.
U.S. Rep Keith Ellison said he was upset with a police officer who he believes pointed a gun at his son, Jeremiah, during the protests.
“Everything that happened to him, he did not deserve”, said Burns, backed by others in her family.
Both officers have been interviewed by officials with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
The department also brings investigators with national experience in these types of cases, which the state doesn’t have.
Instead, the BCA wants community members to turn video in to police first. The investigations by the BCA and the FBI are ongoing and should be concluded as soon as practicable but must be conducted in a transparent manner, as this case raises wider issues for the Minneapolis community, and merits public scrutiny including of any video of the incident.
