Jameis Winston throws all over Eagles
The same rule applies to Winston’s brilliant Week 11 performance against the Eagles.
Down: Run defense – A team with a rookie quarterback like the Buccaneers will try to run the ball on the road. He’s the third running back in the National Football League this season to go over 200 yards, joining Doug Martin (235) and Adrian Peterson (203). “Let’s get ready for Thursday”. He wound up throwing two interceptions and two touchdowns on the day, and was badly outplayed by Marcus Mariota, the player selected immediately after him atop the 2015 draft.
Jameis Winston grew up rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Even the return of perennial Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jason Peters meant little to the Eagles, who after their usual slow start in the first half were hopelessly outclassed in the second half.
“We didn’t do anything well today”, Davis said. “We should have won this one”.
“We’re OK” is all Sproles would add when asked about the confrontation. But (crash of cymbals) they did that with each other.
“I know Tampa Bay is happy, because this is the first back-to-back win we’ve had in a long time”, Winston said. “And there’s nothing wrong with that”. “Well, we’re relevant again”.
Sproles was unavailable for comment. “It was just a great day all around”. The game wasn’t that close. I was even singing the fight song out there on the field. None of it worked.
Winston, on the march leading to his fifth TD pass and a 35-14 lead, was in the grasp of Cox when he performed the switcheroo. And asked if he were certain that he had assembled enough talented players for a turnaround, he said, “Yes, I do”.
Blaine Gabbert threw for 264 yards and one touchdown, but San Francisco (3-7) couldn’t overcome the early 20-0 deficit.
Whether the Eagles personnel or Kelly’s scheming is to blame for this year’s struggles, both fall on Kelly, who has control of the roster. The mark of 237 yards is shared by Emmitt Smith (1993) and Jim Brown (1961). Chip Kelly’s “innovative” offense was constantly punting the ball away and, if they weren’t punting, they were turning the ball over. There was a major temptation to TEXT 78247 for stadium assistance. The Buccaneers’ defense also forced four Philadelphia turnovers, three on interceptions by QB Mark Sanchez. A quarterback with a good feel for pressure, pocket movement and the timing of the offense can compensate for poor offensive tackle play – Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning are poster boys for that quality – and it looks like Winston is exactly that kind of quarterback as well. Then they allowed two in the first half Sunday.
“It cost us seven points”, he said. Then he’d stop on a dime, shuffle his feet and bolt through a hole in the Eagles defense for a big gain.
– Justin Tucker, Ravens, kicked a 47-yard field goal as time expired to help Baltimore rally from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter and beat St. Louis 16-13.
This game has assured me that the 2015 Eagles are all but finished. That led to Winston’s 4-yard TD pass to wide receiver Russell Shepard and a 21-7 lead with 8:06 left in the second quarter. It allowed 246 rushing yards on just 19 Bucs attempts. Dallas’ Tony Romo and Dez Bryant connected on a TD pass for the 50th time, breaking the team record of 49 set by Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin…. Winston tied the record with touchdown No. 5 – a 5-yard strike to Cameron Brate – with 5:13 remaining in the third quarter.
Martin had 177 yards in the first half, including runs of 84 and 58 yards. He didn’t appear to make a play for the ball and Sanchez said they miscommunicated on the play. If Winston could have his way with the Eagles’ defense, what will pass-heavy Matthew Stafford do? The Eagles’ all-time leader is WR Harold Carmichael, with 589. Huff spared Kelly the celebratory somersault. I’m not sure he’ll be able to, but I think he’ll at least get the chance. Games before that, if we had a penalty, we’d be like, ‘Oh, man. It’s a penalty.
