James agrees to four-year, $154 million deal with Lakers
At least in regards to the playoffs on this side of the Mississippi, LeBron is LeGone.
WFNY will have more on LeBron’s decision to leave (again), the emotions that have been brought to the surface with him leaving the Cavs for the second time, and everything else Cavs and LeBron related throughout the rest of the upcoming week. Then, he returned to Cleveland with a Sports Illustrated essay.
The dream of LeBron James coming to the Los Angeles Lakers is still in play, but two potential key parts of the proposed dream team that would lure the King appear to have opted out of joining L.A.
It all adds up to James bypassing the Sixers for the land of purple and gold. LeBron’s connection to Akron, Cleveland and all of Northeast Ohio will most certainly endure as his commitment to the region and his support of many important causes has been impactful to so many kids and families. I’m here to stay. He’s just going to have a much tougher time getting there out of the West. James helped seal a Game 7 win with a chase-down block of Andre Iguodala, the signature moment of a career that has shown no signs of decay. That savings will give Golden State options for other moves this summer, as the Warriors look to bolster their bench for a run at what could be a fourth title in a five-year span. For most free-agent signings (especially in a different sport entirely than what’s being televised), this would be significant overkill, but Woj’s description of this as a “seismic shift in the NBA” feels accurate. Is Nerlens Noel, another Klutch client, next? He was named the NBA’s most valuable player in 2009 and 2010 and controversially moved to Miami in 2010. He also wants to be Executive of the Year. The best the two teams can do is meet in the Western Conference Finals.
And now the deal is complete he posted a message to those who supported him while in Cleveland.
All three of those players will have designs on a title next season.
Though the length of the deal has raised the eyebrows of fans and media members alike, that James signed a deal longer than any deal he signed after returning to the Cavs in 2014 should have been expected.
While dethroning the Golden State Warriors will be very hard, the Lakers are heading in the right direction.
