James Bay Steps Out After Scoring Three Grammy Nominations
MUMBAI 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards announced its nominations in all 83 categories, reflecting a diverse blend of talented music makers, this year’s nominees were selected from more than 21,000 submissions entered.
The full list of nominees for this year’s Grammys can be viewed here. She is facing off against Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Alabama Shakes and Kendrick Lamar for the awards.
Hiatus Kaiyote is nominated in the Best R&B Performance category for Breathing Underwater, with The Weeknd (Earned It) and Tamar Braxton (If I Don’t Have You) also in the running.
Best new artist nominees are Courtney Barnett, James Bay, Sam Hunt, Tori Kelly, Meghan Trainor.
Independent labels received several nominations in key categories, including Record Of The Year, Album of the Year, Song Of The Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Dance Recording, Rock Performance, Best Metal Performance, Best Alternative Music Album, and Best Rap Performance.
Lamar’s single “Alright” got him three nominations including Song of the year, Best Rap Song, and Best Music Video.
Final-round Grammy ballots will be mailed December 16 and the preeminent award for excellence in music will be presented Monday, February 15, 2016, at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. The three are all up for Album of the Year, against Alabama Shakes and Chris Stapleton.
“I wasn’t expecting the Grammy noms, thank you”, he tweeted.
Rolling Stone further narrated that “Punk icon Patti Smith, one of Rolling Stone’s 25 most noteworthy artists to never win a Grammy, finds herself up for a nomination in 2016, but in a very unlikely category: Best Spoken Word”.

Speaking about her new album, Shankar said, “This music is a slow burn, you know?”
Best pop vocal album: “Piece by Piece“, Kelly Clarkson; “How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful“, Florence + The Machine; “Uptown Special“, Mark Ronson; “1989”, Taylor Swift; “Before This World”, James Taylor.
Kendrick Lamar has also raked in the nominations.
Goulding’s hit Love Me Like You Do, which featured on the Fifty Shades Of Grey soundtrack, was nominated in the Best Pop Solo Performance field, as La Havas’ second album, Blood, is one of the choices in the Best Urban Contemporary Album category. Highly Suspect’s album, “Mister Asylum“, issued on Lyor Cohen’s 300 Entertainment imprint, also snagged a rock album nomination and will compete against works by Muse, Slipknot, Death Cab for Cutie and James Bay. Yet the fact that D’Angelo’s Black Messiah record is missing from these categories makes little sense.
Best rap album category nominees are 2014 Forest Hills Drive by J Cole, Compton by Dr Dre, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late by Drake, To Pimp a Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar and The Pinkprint by Nicki Minaj.
