James Cameron Confirms Christmas 2017 Target For ‘Avatar 2′ Spinoff Online
Avatar, released in 2009, broke worldwide box office records through garnering more than $2.7 billion world wide.
However, outside of the mythos’ overt, thinly-veiled (arguably saccharine) usage of environmental ethos, the first film was undoubtedly better known for its sprawling, colorful pastel alien landscapes of the planet Pandora.
Cameron knows that these sequels are going to be dealing with lots of scrutiny (mostly from those of us who wonder if the rest of this story can be anything more than Pocahontas with blue people). He is clearly not taking any chances and wants everything to be as ideal as possible. He added that he is now working with the design process and that it is ripe for harvest at this point. “All the characters, settings and creatures are all pretty much [set]”. James Cameron is just about ready to get started making a movie after the new year. I just hope the story is much more interesting than what we got with the first Avatar, but with all the extra time they’ve had to work, I’m honestly not that anxious.
The publication caught up with Cameron at the opening of Cirque Du Soleil’s Toruk: The First Flight, which is the Avatar prequel that fans of whimsy have presumably been demanding.
Now that the sequel of “Avatar” is currently being developed, the director of the film shared some details about the upcoming film. He even said so himself during a recent interview with the Montreal Gazette. Originally set for a Christmas 2016 release date, Avatar 2 was pushed back to 2017 about a year ago due to the difficulties that Cameron was having putting together the scripts for all three planned sequels.
The plan, then, is to film three films back-to-back-to-back, and release them one year after another. The three sequels will be dropped a year apart, which he calls as a meta-narrative.
“Avatar 2” is expected to hit theaters on December 25, 2017.
