At The Oscars an envelope mix-up saw La La Land erroneously announced as the best picture victor by presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, after which it was reawarded to Moonlight.
He has been a part of the leadership balloting team since 2014. The two each memorize the winners for every single trophy.
It transpired that a mistake had been made regarding the envelopes.
After Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the wrong best picture victor, reading out La La Land before correctly giving the award to Moonlight, the comedians jumped on the subject.

However, after announcing La La Land as the victor and inviting the cast up on stage to accept the award, Beatty and Dunaway were informed that an error had been made and that Moonlight had actually earned the top prize. They told them, Moonlight, come give your speech on your film about hand jobs on the beach. Warren Beatty, right, had been given the wrong card. He looked at Faye and she read “La La Land”, but that was the envelope for Best Lead Actress. “I wasn’t trying to be amusing”, Beatty clarified to the audience after the mistake was revealed.
“We wish to extend our deepest gratitude to each of them for the graciousness they displayed during such a hard moment”, the statement said.
A photo zooming in on the envelope Warren Beatty was holding shows it said “Best actress in a leading role”. “And what I was so grateful about in having the opportunity to play Juan was playing a gentleman who saw a young man folding into himself as a result of the persecution of his community”.
