James Harden voted MVP by National Basteball Association peers at ‘The Players’ Awards’
Harden was named league MVP at “The Players’ Awards”, which was televised by BET after being taped on Sunday.
MC Lyte, who was the show announcer, loved the fact that BET has added a sports element to their award show list.
New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis was nominated for two awards, but came away empty at the inaugural NBA Players’ Association Awards. This year’s awards aired on BET and the NBPA has a three year deal with BET to air the awards. Five months earlier, at All-Star Weekend, Kevin Durant, issued a rallying cry for players’ right to vote on their awards.
That’s what we thought. Knowing that rappers secretly want to be basketball players and basketball players secretly want to be rappers, Ink told us about his dreams of once wanting to be a hooper. Our opinions should count.
“I had my hoop dreams but I was too short so you know I play at the park every Saturday”, he laughed.
Chris Paul, the president of the player’s union, said on his way into the awards show that the agenda for the meeting was clear, but declined to elaborate. “This is the first year, and I think next year we’ll have an opportunity to make it even better”. “All I know is that the [players] have a sense of who they respect and whose game they respect, in a way that the media can’t possibly know, because the media hasn’t played with these guys”, said Michele Roberts, the executive director of the NBPA. “So, it’s in an interesting, different perspective”. Is Harden simply more popular in the league or do the NBAPA really think he was better then Curry during the season? It’s up to you. That voting was done by media members, however, and on Tuesday, numerous star guards’ National Basteball Association peers had their say.
