James leads Cavaliers back to NBA Finals
LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers dominated the Boston Celtics on their home floor in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals, 135-102, to clinch their third-consecutive NBA Finals appearance.
The Boston Celtics will be playing in full desperation mode.
James was 0-4 from three point range heading into the 4th quarter, and he altered his strategy to better suit the team’s needs.
During the pre-game broadcast, TNT reported that LeBron James was suffering from a, “bug”. It usually is only a matter of time before James forces the issue, and Irving can finish through the utmost traffic. There is no shutting them down for an entire game, but the Celtics have seen what kind of disaster comes if they do not shut them down for at least portions of the game. Love scored the Cavs’ first eight points and the team collected its first double-digit lead at 15-5 with just over four minutes gone in the game.
Thanks to that trio, the Cavs are now headed to their third consecutive Finals trip after dismantling the Celtics in five games to win the East. When his 3-pointer splashed with a half-second left in the quarter, the Cavs led 87-80.
Irving also rolled an ankle on a drive and bucket with 1:47 left in the third but was able to stay in the game.
Kyrie Irving has 24 points, Kevin Love has 15 and Deron Williams has 14.
Thursday night will provide the next opportunity for the Celtics to make some tweaks to their game with Game 5 set to tip at 8:30 p.m. “I don’t have to score to have an impact on the game, and it’s carried me to this point now and it is going to carry me the rest of my career”.
Aside from a Game 3 upset after losing Thomas to a hip injury, the Celtics lost by margins of 13, 44, 13, and 33 points.
It’s worth reiterating, their dominance simply could not be stifled despite Boston’s best efforts.
“As insane as it sounds”, Celtics coach Brad Stevens said, “going into halftime we had cut it to at least a manageable number, and then we come out and get some tremendous looks and Kyrie just goes nuts”.
“Ultimately, we feel like this is a bad taste”, Crowder said. We’ll need all the help we can get if we hope to extend this series and put off the offseason.
Horford couldn’t have been more right in his assessment of the Celtics.
Interestingly enough, though, the Boston defensive ace was torched in this series by Irving. That being said, the very best the Celtics have to offer can not compete with the best the Cavaliers have to offer.
But let’s get back to Game 5.
