James Woods Sues Twitter User for $10 Million
James Woods is suing a Twitter user for $10 million after he was accused on the social media site of being a “cocaine addict”.
Even though the “Abe List” account is no longer active, Woods” lawsuit maintains that his “cocaine addict’ false statement continues to harm Woods through Google searches.
Actor James Woods claims a Twitter subscriber defamed him to hundreds of thousands of Woods’ followers, and he wants to know who it is, and damages for defamation. Twitter has disabled Abe List’s account, but a search for cached tweets returns some of the evidence in question. It’ll be inneresting to see how this whole thing plays out in court as the troll’s real identity still remains anonymous.
Woods’ complaint also alleges the abuse is part of a campaign by the same Twitter user that stretches back to December 2014. “They are not impervious to the law”, stated the complaint.
Abe List had previously called Woods a prick, a ridiculous scum clown-boy, and a joke, all of which are (delightful) opinions, and thus not anything on which to hang a defamation case.
“AL’s reckless and malicious behaviour, through the worldwide reach of the internet, has now jeopardized Woods’ good name and reputation on an global scale”.
“Cocaine addict James Woods still sniffing and spouting”, the message read.
Because the user is anonymous, Woods faces an uphill battle with his lawsuit, the Los Angeles Times noted.
According to THR, the lawsuit doesn’t say if Woods ever tried to block Abe Listed from following him or seeing his tweets.
Woods, who boasts more than 238,900 followers on Twitter, is demanding damages for the knock to his reputation. He is represented by Michael Weinstein, with Lavely & Singer.
