James Woods Suing Twitter Troll … for $10 Million!!!
Actor James Woods filed a multi-million-dollar lawsuit Wednesday against a Twitter user, alleging defamation and invasion of privacy. Instead, he’s hired Michael Weinsten at Lavely & Singer and is going the route of a $10 million defamation lawsuit and resulting headlines. Woods claims Abe List crossed the line when he called the actor a “cocaine addict”.
Numerous tweets in question have been deleted, but a few are still available online.
In reply to a tweet Woods sent about media priorities, AL replied “cocaine addict James Woods still sniffing and spouting”.
Twitter trolls are nothing new for celebs, who have to deal with everything from sexually explicit messages to pleading for them to come to Brazil every time they offer up a new tweet. Woods’ actions were triggered specifically by AL’s accusation that he is a “cocaine addict”.
It’s worth noting… List has a paltry 2,274 followers, but Woods claims his 238,932 could have seen the tweet as well.
Woods also stated that he was targeted in “a campaign of childish name-calling”, and has been maligned by tweets that called him a “prick”, “scum” and “clown-boy”.
“AL’s reckless and malicious behaviour, through the worldwide reach of the internet, has now jeopardised Woods’ good name and reputation on an global scale”, the complaint reads.
“Freedom is not needing to be liked”, he says in his bio. Nor does Woods explain whether he ever attempted to mitigate harm by filling out a form Twitter provides to curb abuse on its forum.
