Jamie Vardy signs new contract to keep him at Leicester until 2019
Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri wears a broad smile at the Etihad Stadium with a 3-1 Premier League victory against Manchester City to show, February 6, 2016. The Foxies are now 5 points clear in front of Manchester City and 8 to Arsenal that is set to play tomorrow.
He added: “I don’t believe the bookmakers [making Leicester favourites]. I thought they’d win the game”, he said. I want to give my players all the highlights [plaudits], that’s important.
Sergio Aguero replied for City with a glancing header in the 87th minute – his seventh goal in five games – but it was only a consolation on a rain-lashed day at the Etihad Stadium.
Riyah Mahrez got Leicester City’s second 48 minutes in.
Ranieri said: “It was a good performance”.
“I am very happy that he stays with us for long”.
With fellow title aspirants Tottenham and Arsenal also still involved in the FA Cup and Europe, Huth thinks such distractions could lend Leicester an advantage in their improbable bid for glory. “I know the other teams have a bigger and better squad than us but we’ve only got the league to focus on”.
Sol Campbell thinks the lack of experience Leicester City and Tottenham have in leading the Premier League makes the race for the title even more unpredictable. We want to fight of course but without pressure. “I hope we concentrate as well as in these last matches to continue our dream”.
“We had a chance to recover points at home, we are six points behind”. We’re not in our best moment – we have just 14 players fit and we’re playing a lot of games.
This was City’s first home game since the announcement that Pellegrini was leaving at the end of the season and being replaced by outgoing Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola.
Manuel Pellegrini wanted news of his imminent departure made public partly in the hope it could galvanise the team for the rest of the season, but on this evidence it had the opposite effect.
Playmaker Silva suffered an ankle injury and was taken off after 77 minutes, leaving the manager to point out he has only 13 fit outfielders to choose from.
He said: “David was playing the last game with pain in his ankle, today was worse because he had a twist in his ankle”. I will work hard every day to thank him.
