Jamie Vardy to reject Arsenal in favour of Leicester City stay
Vardy had been expected to make a decision on Monday before flying to France with England, but he arrived at the team’s base in Chantilly with no update on his future.
That informal deadline came and went and with England now sharpening their preparations ahead of their opening match against Russian Federation on June 11, Vardy is showing total focus on the task at hand.
‘The boss has seen it all, he’s been for many years at the club.
When asked if the Gunners had triggered the forward’s £20 million release clause, Foxes chief Ranieri told Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Sun’s Alec Shilton): “It’s all true”.
“We are not trying to block players’ futures or transfers but, as far as we are concerned, our ongoing theme is that England is England, your club is your club”, he said.
“Although Arsenal finished second this season it is still a disappointment and if you look at the whole campaign we can have regrets”.
So where are we at with this situation?
However, the Evening Standard claims that Vardy is now leaning towards rejecting the Gunners’ approach in favour of staying with the newly-crowned champions.
The Hammers have been linked with a move for Vardy, but Sullivan says a deal would have broken their “current wage structure”.
The striker also cemented his place in Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 squad and was voted the Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers’ Association.
“I don’t think that Vardy will be a starter”, Wenger said. Will he be there?
Manager Steven Pressley is looking to build upon a side that survived relegation on the last day of the season in May and begin to become more competitive in League 1 over the next few years.
Koscielny has give his take on his prospective Arsenal team-mate and revealed that difficulties that a defender faces when they encounter a striker of Vardy’s quality, who has blistering pace to run behind defences.
