Jane Fonda: ‘I swam naked with Michael Jackson’

The actress relayed how it all went down while participating in a Hollywood Masters series interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s Stephen Galloway at Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film and TV on October 7. “We lived together. I went skinny dipping with him”. “And when I first asked [Hepburn for] permission, there’s this young singer, a black young singer that I would like to invite, she was not happy….”

“He came and stayed for 10 days,” she told the outlet.

“She said to Michael, ‘She wasn’t hungry anymore.’ What a great thing to say to a young, rising star like Michael”, Oscar-winner Fonda said, thoughtfully. Fonda reveals that legendary actress Katharine Hepburn had not been pleased when she learned that Fonda was receiving set visits.

On Golden Pond – which hit theaters in 1981 – also starred Jane’s actor father, Henry Fonda, and iconic movie star Katharine Hepburn. And every story embedded a lesson: for example, she talked about Laurette Taylor – and anyone who was alive to see Laurette Taylor in Glass Menagerie has seen as great a moment of acting as [there is]. When Jackson was not gallivanting with Fonda around New Hampshire, though, he was gleaning as much as he could from Hepburn about acting.

Before you ask, Fonda clarified that those tapes will never see the light of day, mostly because she doesn’t know where they are. He wanted to be a movie star – he had just finished doing The Wiz. “You gotta stay hungry”.

“She was very prickly”, Fonda adds of the screen idol. “I mean, she was a snob, she was very moody, and she was very judgmental”.

Fonda made her Broadway debut in the 1960 play “There Was a Little Girl”, for which she received the first of two Tony Award nominations, and made her screen debut later the same year in “Tall Story”.

In addition, is Fonda still “hungry” to this day? To be fair to Michael, he was also linked at the time to Brooke Shields, but she claimed that he was hesitant to pull the trigger and date her. So there you have it, folks: Michael Jackson, notorious lady-killer!
