Jane Park moves into 3-way tie for first at US Women’s Open
In a recent four-week stretch, she went T-41, T-16 and T-27 before missing the cut her first MC in 54 tries at the Women’s PGA Championship in early June.
Park favors the pressurized atmosphere of the majors and willingly increases her preparation for the tour’s premier events.
She was four strokes behind leader Karrie Webb of Australia, who made four birdies on her second nine holes for a 4-under 66 and a share of the lead with American Marina Alex midway through the first round. I’ve worked really hard over the past year, because I changed coaches.
“I just played a couple of bad holes, and if it wasn’t for that I’m right there”.
Jane Park lines up a putt on the14th green during the second round…
Scottish Open: Thorbjorn Olesen shot 7-under 63 to take a one-shot lead over Daniel Brooks after the first round in Gullane. She appears to be speaking LaCoste’s language.
Amy Yang posted a 3-under 67.
Chinese amateur Muni He is two under through 11, while Lee Mi-hyang, Morgan Pressel, Chun In-gee, Austin Ernst, Sydnee Michaels and Elizabeth Nagel all finished rounds of 68. She has, however, the look of a player that is overdue. Stacy Lewis and Azahara Munoz had 69s.
The 18-year-old was in a tie for 18th but many players were left stranded by a weather delay as a tornado warning forced organisers to halt play with rain falling and thunder booming. But she had bogeys at the seventh, ninth and 10th and made just one birdie, at the 12th.
Webb’s last major championship success was at the 2006 ANA Inspiration.
Karrie Webb said it was too early to think about the history she would make if she won her third U.S. Women’s Open this week.
Park first saw the course five weeks ago during a dry spell.
“I was a nervous kid, pretty much”. Rain has been steady presence in the area – sound familiar? Standout South Korean rookie Sei Young Kim had her caddie removed from the championship by the United States Golf Association for taking photos of internal notes on the course setup. Dame Laura Davies was two over with Charley Hull three over after they both hit 72 on Friday. That carried over into the second round and she went on a hot streak. I was waiting on the 8th tee, I used every club in my bag except the 6-iron. “I’m just delighted to get off to a great get started and hopefully continue to play this fantastic for the subsequent 3 days”. And the short game is really going to come in play if/when a player misses a green.
On the eighth, a 205-yard par-3, the two-time All-American at Vanderbilt hit a 5-wood and sank a 20-foot putt. She played on this large stage as an 18-year old-amateur, qualifying for Saucon Valley in 2009. She hit her approach to within a foot on No. 14 and punctuated the run. At Lancaster, she has 13 fairways and 17 greens after one day. My game then and now is not even remotely the same.
Alex started with four straight pars from the 10th.
However, she bounced back in her last tournament with a tie for sixth in the NW Arkansas Championship, where she closed with an eight-under 63.
“It’s been a test of my patience, I feel like I’ve had some good golf in me”, Webb said. I don’t have to think about what body part moves when.
