JANE THE VIRGIN on THE CW – Monday, October 26, 2015
The Jane-Rafael-Michael love triangle is clearly going strong in Season 2, and we’re still not sure exactly how it’s going to shake out. It’s a very tricky line to walk. In total viewers, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” drew 928,000 and “Jane the Virgin” drew 1.06 million. If this kidnapping has no meaningful impact on its characters, then how can any traumatic event hold any narrative weight in the future?
Don’t stress too much about it, though. The first is that Mateo is gone so briefly, he’s hardly even late for his next meal.
Meanwhile Jane the Virgin’s Season 2 premiere was watched by 1.06 million viewers and nabbed a 0.4 demo rating. To get her to marriage, there will be lots of twists and turns. Michael and Rafael dive into the pool, goofily swimming past pink furry handcuffs in search of the brooch, until Jane locates it in the pool drain. (What were they thinking?) Between the comedy of her climbing out of her hospital bed right after giving birth and the poignant drama of her struggling to get Mateo to nurse, she showed more of the remarkable range and verve that makes her one of TV’s best actresses, regardless of genre (or network).
So this was the first excellent decision. If you’re looking for a serial that is well-written, superbly acted and is full of heart, I can’t recommend Jane enough.
“He’ll tell me that he’s so excited about the show because it’s about him and I’m like no, Dr. Brooks it’s not about you”. You’re our guide and our stand-in.
You’ll see Kesha in the second episode. Mateo’s lost 10 percent of his birth weight, and Jane is having trouble breastfeeding.
The premiere showed Jane adjusting to her new duties as a mother. That is to say, it is unbelievably quotidian.
Jane star Gina Rodriguez is keeping her eyes on major league baseball, especially the Cards Cubs division series.
“I’m also #TeamMichael”, says Jaime Camil. There was no idea how long or hard it would be for Jane to get Mateo back.
“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (7 p.m., CW/Ch. 30): Rebecca Bunch (Rachel Bloom) is a successful, driven, and possibly insane young woman who impulsively gives up everything – her partnership at a prestigious law firm and her upscale apartment in Manhattan – in a desperate attempt to find love and happiness in that exotic hotbed of romance and adventure: suburban West Covina, Calif. But Target’s placement on Jane the Virginis more than a mention; it’s a play for the type of customer the company wants to attract. “THIS is a freaking miracle!” feels legitimately celebratory.
