Janet Jackson adds Dublin stop to European tour
It can’t be easy to be the kid sister of the King of Pop, but Janet Jackson pulled it off in the 1980s as she became a music legend in her own right. All of her peak-era albums – Control, Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814, janet., The Velvet Rope and All for You – accomplished the same feat.
Her brother’s sudden death led her to withdraw from the spotlight to grieve but she re-emerged in 2011 with an 80-date tour to promote a greatest hits collection.
The R&B icon debuted Unbreakable, the follow-up to 2008’s “Discipline”, in pole position, earning Jackson her seventh U.S. number one.
The Unbreakable album constitutes a historic re-teaming of the iconic performer, now a holder of 46 record chartings with producer/songwriter superstars Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
Jackson also recently released new single BURNITUP! featuring Missy Elliott through social media. “I’m glad you’re still here”.
Jackson has been steadily building anticipation for the album by offering different pieces of the work in the months leading up to the release.
Billboard reports that Unbreakable sold 116K “equivalent album units” in its first week, which ended on October 8. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift’s 1989 is within two weeks of spending an entire year in the Top 10 as the album ended its 50th week on the charts at Number Six.
