Japan’s Yuki Kawauchi Stuns The Field With Boston Marathon Win
Minor edits.A cancer survivor who needed a brief break from the brutal conditions has completed the Boston Marathon about 13 hours after she started.
Linden and her husband, Ryan Linden, met in the Hanson-Brooks elite development running group that Desiree joined when she moved to MI as a recent college grad in 2005. He won the race with a time of 2:15:58.
Sellers does not have a strong social media presence and, according to BBC News, she ran the race without a sponsor or agent.
This year, despite the brutal conditions of wind and rain, the marathon still went on with emotions running high. I wasn’t even sure if I was going to finish.
She still views the professional runners she beat as idols, not peers – “not only the American women, but also the worldwide field”, she said. She has made two U.S. Olympic teams for the marathon and says she plans on trying to make a third in 2020.
“When they put it in my hands, it felt scorching hot, because I was so cold”, Thomas said.
The two-time Olympian and 2011 Boston runner-up pulled away at the end of Heartbreak Hill to finish in 2 hours, 39 minutes, 54 seconds. Later, she helped Molly Huddle reconnect with the group. Yesterday marked Linden’s sixth time racing the Boston Marathon-and first-ever time atop the podium of a major marathon race.
Yuki Kawauchi seemed like just another spotlight-seeking, early front-runner when he darted out to take the lead at the start of Monday’s Boston Marathon.

Lisa Larsen Weidenbach’s 1985 victory was the last for an American woman – before the race began offering prize money that lured the top worldwide competitors to the world’s oldest and most prestigious annual marathon.
It is the first major title for Kawauchi, who lists Bill “Boston Billy” Rodgers – a four-time victor of the race – as one of his mentors.
For the first time in 33 years an American woman has won the Boston Marathon.

She credited Linden with keeping her in the race. So considering how bad they were, I was actually very pleasantly surprised at how well I did.
