Jared Goff receives first pick of 2016 NFL Draft
Two late trades made it no surprise that the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles ended up selecting quarterbacks Jared Goff and Carson Wentz first and second, respectively, Thursday night.
Two familiar faces drove up to L.A. Live to welcome Jared Goff into the Los Angeles Rams quarterback fraternity Friday afternoon. Los Angeles chose another big tight end with the second pick of the sixth round, getting South Carolina State’s Temarrick Hemingway, before adding Southern Miss receiver Michael Thomas later in the sixth.
Myles Jack, a standout linebacker from UCLA, failed to be selected on the first day of the three-day draft over concerns about a knee injury that sidelined him all of last season.
The San Diego Chargers broke the quarterback chain by taking Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa with the third pick and the Dallas Cowboys followed by claiming another Buckeye, Ohio State’s dynamic running back Ezekiel Elliott. Without any additional bodies for the secondary via the draft, coach Jeff Fisher said that area will be a priority in undrafted free agency. “I’m very excited, very ready to go, ready for the challenge”. The top two picks were obvious with Goff and Wentz, but overall I got 9 of the 31 picks correct. Now he’ll be competing for the chance to throw the first passes at the Coliseum in the Rams’ return in September.
“I’ll come, work hard, see what happens”.
Then to pile on, according to Deadspin.com Tunsil had his Instagram account hacked.
Each team will have a player who was a team or national victor of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award make the third-round draft announcements.
After Goff and Wentz got their hats and exchanged pleasantries with Commissioner Roger Goodell, it was an Ohio State parade to the podium.
There are still a ton of guys here who could bring something to the team in the upcoming season (and hopefully beyond), so I want to take a look now at who from the remaining players the Packers should give some consideration to taking in the next few rounds. Higbee has some off-field issues to resolve but could be an ideal fit for the Rams’ needs if he can get them squared away. San Francisco, which took OR defensive lineman Arik Armstead in the first round a year ago, went back to the Ducks for DE DeForest Buckner. Is general manager Jerry Reese insane or just smarter than the experts who had Apple rated as the second or third best corner in the draft?
All in all, five players from Ohio State populated the first round.
But before Tunsil’s name even became relevant, the Philadelphia Eagles already had their own soap opera playing out in the media.
Recent reports have suggested that Notre Dame’s Ronnie Stanley might now be the first offensive tackle off the board.
