Jared Goff to start against Dolphins
Goff will become the second quarterback this season to make his first ever National Football League start against the Dolphins.
After rumors swirled for hours on social media, the Los Angeles Rams confirmed yesterday that DE Robert Quinn had indeed been admitted to a Los Angeles-area hospital.
That response only made the fans more rabid so after once again failing to find the end zone in Week 10, Keenum’s ticket to the bench was punched, especially with mounting pressure on head coach Jeff Fisher to make a move as he’s in the final year of his contract.
“I’m really happy for him, I think he’s ready”, the Westlake High graduate said. “He’s ready. He’s preparing”.
The Dolphins have Ndamukong Suh on the interior of their defensive line and line up the NFL’s premier 4-3 pass rusher over the opponent’s right tackle in Cam Wake.
Goff will have to overcome those offensive obstacles, but he did enough at California to merit his No. 1 pick status by throwing for 4,719 yards and 43 touchdowns in his final collegiate season. Case Keenum threw for 165 yards, with no TD’s and no picks, while Todd Gurley rushed for 64 yards on 21 carries. The Rams now rank last in the league in points scored with 139.
The timing still surprised Keenum, who led the Rams in a 9-6 victory over the Jets last weekend to snap a four-game skid.
It will be the first game action this season for Goff, who has been the No. 2 quarterback behind Case Keenum for eight of the Rams’ nine games. He had the game’s lowest Total QBR (43.1) and the second-worst touchdown-to-interception ratio (0.82) and ranked 23rd among 33 qualified quarterbacks in yards per attempt (6.93) and 24th in completion percentage (61 percent).
Goff was tipped as the first quarterback to be taken throughout his final year with the Golden Bears, but the emergence of Carson Wentz at North Dakota State made it a straight shootout for the two.
Heyward sustained the injury in Sunday’s 35-30 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
The problem for the Rams and Jeff Fisher? Walsh missed his fourth extra point of the season in Sunday’s 26-20 loss to the Washington Redskins. Goff could do no worse and when he does make a mistake you would tend to give a small break due to his inexperience. Romo quickly left the news conference after saying he wouldn’t take questions following his statement. “We’re going to get it right”.
– The Arizona Cardinals re-signed Drew Butler and released fellow punter Ryan Quigley.
– The Buffalo Bills addressed their ailing secondary by signing a familiar face in veteran safety James Ihedigbo. He’s facing one of the hotter teams in football, Adam Gase’s Dolphins, who are riding a four-game win streak.
