Jared Leto to play Andy Warhol in new biopic
The Associated Press said a representative for Mr. Leto confirmed the movie was coming, as reported Tuesday by entertainment news outlets such as THR and Variety.
That being said, congrats to producer Michael De Luca for teaming up with Leto to make “Warhol”, an Andy Warhol biopic based off the 1989 Victor Bockris biography.
The film will be written by “Boardwalk Empire” creator and former “Sopranos” writer Terence Winter, who also wrote “The Wolf of Wall Street“, for which he earned an Oscar nomination.
Jared Leto is not one to shy away from challenging roles. The Hollywood Reporter wrote that Mr. Leto and Mr. De Luca jointly acquired the rights to the book about the Pittsburgh native and eccentric king of the pop art movement.
Warhol, a Pittsburgh-native, came from a working class family and struggled with hypochondria at an early age.
And before Warhol graces our screens, we’ll be seeing Leto in the untitled Blade Runner sequel, directed by Denis Villeneuve. But there are plenty of Warhol antics that would be more amusing for Leto to emulate; maybe he could start hanging out with pro wrestlers, as Warhol did toward the end of his life.
