Jarnkrok, Rinne Lead Predators To 7-0 Win Over Jets
Winnipeg’s defense has been troublesome during a four-game losing streak, while the Predators followed a seven-goal performance by scoring only once in a shootout loss to Toronto on Thursday. In one third-quarter sequence, an on-ice scrum led to a dozen simultaneous unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, causing an overflow situation in the penalty boxes at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
In their last 3 games, the Preds have scored a combined 15 goals. “We’ll stick together and find a way to get out of this little funk that we are in, and at the end of it, we will be better team because of it”.
Fight night: The Predators and Jets were embroiled in a seemingly never-ending melee through most of the second half of Saturday’s game.
Michael Hutchinson stopped four of the seven shots he faced and Ondrej Pavelec finished with 23 saves on his 27 shots for the Jets. The Jets spent most of Friday’s practice working on the power play, as they have scored on just one of their last 21 opportunities.
Calle Jarnkrok scored twice and Pekka Rinne made 20 saves to give the Preds their tenth win of the season.
Mr. Smith: Without a point in 10 consecutive games entering Saturday, forward Craig Smith had three in the first period, doubling his season point total; he had three goals in the first five games of the season.
“Our team has been playing great”, Smith said.
