Jarryd Hayne ‘happy and excited’ to see San Francisco 49ers hire former
Former 49ers quarterback Steve Young said on ESPN that Kaepernick must “go into the classroom, prove to Chip Kelly that ‘I can get embedded into my mind everything I need to do so that I have reflective recall.’ Look, we all know he physically has the software”.
The San Francisco 49ers announced on Thursday that they have hired Chip Kelly to be their head coach.
“Chip has a proven track record at both the college and National Football League levels that speaks for itself, ” York said in a statement. “When you ruin a team like that, you do things to peoples’ families, you release people, you trade people, you get rid of good players who build something with the community, with the fans, with the kids – to have a guy come in and change up the team like that, I just believe in karma”. I’m not trying to make excuses, but we weren’t as bad as some of the numbers look. “He has demonstrated the ability to be innovative everywhere he has coached and has had great success throughout his career”.
According to the report, Kaepernick isn’t sure how to react to the hiring because he’s still uncertain about his future in San Francisco, as there was no contact between the Niners and Kaepernick during the team’s 11-day coaching search. I suppose Mama and Papa York could decide Jed isn’t suited for CEO work, but with the new stadium in place, I just don’t see that happening.
Kelly has been applauded as an offensive guru but may have bitten off more than he could chew when he took over as personnel chief of the Philadelphia Eagles last season.
One of the more interesting aspects of Kelly securing the 49ers job is the fact that the Eagles have yet to find his successor. Trent Baalke remains the club’s general manager.
One-sentence summary: “Following each game, Kelly and Eagles Game Plan host Brian Baldinger used the All-22 to break down the biggest plays and performances”. His arrival could put a new lease on quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s life with the 49ers.
Other loyal Kelly followers said they switched over to the Eagles when he was there, and will now switch again to the 49ers.
Kelly was sacked by Philadelphia earlier this month before the season had concluded after three years in the role, with the Eagles showing him the door after a hugely disappointing 7-9 NFC East season.
Kelly won a power struggle in the Eagles’ front office a year ago, one that landed him the additional title of head of football operations. And players have talked about Kelly’s attention to detail. The 49ers’ defense ranked 29th, one spot above the Eagles, this season and allowed 24.2 points per game.
Receiver Torrey Smith, running back Jarryd Hayne, free safety Eric Reid and defensive end Arik Armstead took to Twitter in the hiring.
A person with knowledge of the decision tells The Associated Press that Kansas City offensive coordinator Doug Pederson has accepted the Eagles’ offer to become their head coach.
Kelly will be filling out his staff in coming days.
