Jarryd Hayne likely to escape charge for referee contact
In Hayne’s much hyped comeback to the NRL on the Gold Coast on Sunday, it was the Titans finals hopes that took a hit despite the superstar enjoying an impressive rugby league return. The lengthy absence, coupled with the changes in body shape required to first adapt to American football and then to rugby sevens, has raised questions about Hayne’s ability to slot straight back into top-flight rugby league so deep into a season.
Although the focus was centred on Hayne’s return to the NRL the Warriors carried the form that had seen them play four golden-point games in their past five to bring their large portion of the 25,109 fans on hand into the game early.
Titans coach Neil Henry has been assessing Hayne’s fitness levels during his first training sessions with the team, but has indicated he will likely start him from the interchange bench against the Warriors at Cbus Super Stadium.
Laurie Daley won’t be afraid to play Jarryd Hayne out of position as he sizes up the crosscode-star for a return to the State of Origin arena next year.
“Going to Fiji rugby, he had no option but to train hard because it’s a game based on speed, endurance and repeat efforts”, Fabri said.
“Was it a touch or did he walk back into me? He hasn’t played for a while but he’s the sort of player that does handle that sort of pressure and he’ll make a big difference for them”.
“I’m looking forward to that, it’s the first time in my NRL career I’ll be playing at Campbelltown”, Hayne told Fox Sports.
For team harmony personally I think that Hayne should not be given a starting role this season, they have gotten this far without him.
“Just the minutes in the legs, that’s something you really can’t get at training because of the contact, and how ferocious it is out there on the field”, Hayne said.
“It has set him up with a good platform”. I always knew it was going to hurt and it was going to be tough to survive.
Already 24,000 tickets have been sold for the match with Cbus Super Stadium having a 27,600 capacity.
