Jason Garrett: Greg Hardy won’t be punished for tirade
That tune changed Monday, however.
“It wasn’t exactly the right time and place as we’re getting ready to go out on the field”, Garrett said on WRLD-AM radio in Dallas.
“I just had to communicate what we were going to do on the next return”, Bisaccia said, “so I just really wanted him to move on so we could get going”.
It’s at least the third time Garrett has had to talk to Hardy about his actions. In the spring, Hardy wrote an insensitive tweet regarding the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.
Hardy was incensed about Giants’ Dwayne Harris returning a kickoff for what was eventually the game-winning touchdown. An enraged Hardy shoved a couple of players before shoving special teams coach Rich Bisaccia. Over 65 career games as a member of the Carolina Panthers (2010-2014) and the Cowboys, Hardy has recorded 212 tackles, 37.0 sacks, and has forced eight fumbles.
And obviously, Hardy was his usual self when “answering” questions from reporters, responding to everything with a few variation of “No comment”.
Greg Hardy’s ugly sideline behaviour and post-game interview antics are unacceptable – unless you’re Jerry Jones, his biggest apologist.
While the fight may indicate there is a problem with the team, head coach Jason Garret put that idea to rest.
We have yet to see what kind of behavior the Dallas Cowboys consider to be unacceptable when it comes to Pro Bowl defensive end Greg Hardy. So they get it done and through that they earn a great deal of respect by their teammates. On Monday, executive vice president Stephen Jones said it was a “real possibility” the two sides would work out a contract extension.
Bryant, who’s been known to flip out on the sidelines himself, followed Hardy to attempt to calm him down, which went about as well as you might expect.
It was clear to just about everyone outside the Cowboys camp that Hardy should have been gone the moment he gave his first interview of the season, when he had the opportunity to show remorse for his role in the domestic violence incident and instead made jokes about how good looking Tom Brady’s wife is. I don’t think that’s an issue at all. His reaction was similar to Garrett’s postgame reaction. Garrett and company are basically saying it’s okay to shove coaches and other players around if you’re an “A” performer. You have to be completely engaged, completely invested. “Sometimes those things happen”.
“His effort, his basic aggressiveness, which is an absolute must to play the game and play the position, has just absolutely been something if you have any knowledge or an appreciation for football, when he talks you listen”, Jones said. “Thank you guys for coming”, a shirtless Hardy deadpanned to conclude the impromptu press conference in front of his locker.
