Jason Street Will Play Coach Taylor in a Friday Night Lights Musical
Clear eyes, full hearts, no auto-tune… Friday Night Lights is the latest beloved Hollywood property to get a musical adaptation. Porter, however, isn’t playing Street, but rather Coach Eric Taylor, inheriting the role from iconic Cool Dad Kyle Chandler, who basically made Dad Cool a thing.
But that’s not all – a familiar face from the original series is joining the one-night-only festivities. The production is the brainchild of Sucker Love Productions’ Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin, the duo behind The Unofficial O.C. Musical and Cruel Intentions the Musical, both of whom promise that the musical will provide all the feels.
But a Friday Night Lights musical is happening, and I’ll be damned if it’s not an wonderful idea. A chorus of single moms can sing about hooking up with Tim Riggins.
It’s hard to imagine Coach Taylor’s epic monologues from Friday Night Lights being delivered with any more emotion or conviction; but what if they were SONGS?!
Here’s to hoping against all odds and being rewarded. Will it perfectly capture the community of people living in a small town? There’s no word yet on whether Amy Schumer has been approached to portray Mrs Coach.
