Jason Terry Considering Leaving Rockets For Pelicans
Jason Terry has an offer from the Pelicans, according to Mark Berman of FOX 26 Houston.
At age 37, Jason “The Jet” Terry is long past his prime.
Terry played in 77 games last season, his 16th in the league.
Terry would like to return to the Rockets, but they can’t and won’t offer him anything more than the minimum deal. Cole would give the team added depth as well, but he likely wouldn’t take any minutes away from Terry. The New Orleans team had previously added another veteran, Kendrick Perkins, this offseason and with the seeming preference of the club for the more experienced players, it is logical that Terry would be on their list.
While the Houston Rockets may be inclined to bring him back, Terry does not seem impressed with their offer, leading him to consider the other side of the fence. His experience and leadership are beyond value on a title-contending roster. They don’t have a backup point guard, not while Norris Cole remains unsigned (interest coming from the Philadelphia 76ers). Both teams would likely still be successful without Terry but he would be a nice addition to either team and his championship pedigree cannot be overlooked. McDaniels. If the Pelicans are indeed offering the BAE it is unlikely the Rockets can match financially.
Ultimately the Pelicans may not have an offer out at all; this could be a ploy by Terry’s agent. Patrick Beverley should be healthy, and Ty Lawson has been signed, which leaves very few openings for point guard playing time beyond them.
He started all 17 of the Rockets 2015 playoff games, averaging 9.2 points and 2.8 assists.
