Militants launched a massive onslaught on army camp in Kupwara district of Tangdhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, killing one army jawan.
As per reports, around 6.30 am, three to four terrorists positioned themselves at a mountainous ridge near the camp, which is located near the LoC.
“We heard three blasts initially and a gun battle is on”, said the army officer, who asked not to be identified because he is not authorised to speak on the record.
An unidentified militant was today killed in a gunbattle with security forces during an ongoing operation in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.
The official said the militants seem to be heavily armed as they used small fire arms and Under Barrel Grenade Launchers to carry out the attack. Pakistan always supports the terrorist by providing all types of facilities to them such as money, bombs, riffles and also hiding place to make terror in India. In this operation, so far three security personnel have been injured, including a Lieutenant-Colonel. The sources say the terrorists have been firing from a distance.
The joint operation was conducted yesterday evening by the Rashtriya Rifles battalion, Territorial Army and the Jammu and Kashmir police. The official said it was not yet clear whether the terrorists were part of the infiltrating group.
