Jay Cutler expected to play hurt against Raiders
The rebuilding Bears are desperate for a win, but this Raiders team is too confident for a let down.
Oakland Raiders wide receiver Michael Crabtree left the game Sunday in the first quarter and running back Latavious Murray followed him to the sideline in the second with a shoulder injury.
While Marquette King got in his work punting, the Raiders defense did show a few life when Khalil Mack tipped Cutler’s pass and Justin Tuck sacked the Bears QB on the following play to wrap up the first quarter.
Even if Derek Carr and the Raiders’ offense continues to play well, it’s unlikely the Bears will contribute enough for the combined score to go over the total. Kicker Zach Hocker clanged a 30-yard field-goal attempt off the left upright with 12 seconds left, setting up overtime.
HAYDEN FRY: The Bears had the ball at the 7-yard line in the first quarter, and human torch D.J. Hayden lined up so far off Eddie Royal, he might as well have been been in Alameda still. Chicago threw the ball 43 times for 273 yards and ran the football 29 times for 98 yards.

Cornerback Tracy Porter drew the start over a banged up Alan Ball and for the Bears that was a good thing. And if you knew anything about Cutler’s career, you realized that he didn’t have a clutch bone in his body. “Lesser guys may not have been out there”, head coach John Fox told the Sun-Times. “But I was there 10 years and I played every down the same whether we were winning or not”.
The Raiders (2-2) grabbed the lead on a field goal by Sebastian Janikowski with just over two minutes remaining set up by an interception by Charles Woodson. He picked off a pass thrown behind Martellus Bennett deep in Oakland territory.
Cutler then led Chicago (1-3) from its 20 to the Oakland 32 before Gould nailed the victor in the closing seconds.
“When I’ve looked on, Jack and his staff have done an outstanding job, really, in all three phases”, he said.
I’m really happy for our fans, because we haven’t exactly lit it up here in our first two home games.
Chicago shook off two embarrassing losses, including their first shutout since 2002 last week at Seattle, to give Fox his first victory since he was hired in the offseason. And it capped a busy week that saw Chicago trade Jared Allen to Carolina.
Starting at their own 20-yard-line on the final drive of the afternoon, Matt Forte ran for six yards on first down, Jay Cutler was sacked on second down and he missed his target Josh Bellamy on third.
Bears center Will Montgomery sustained an ankle injury on the third play from scrimmage and is out for the game. LG Matt Slauson moved to center and Patrick Omameh went in at left guard.
Cutler did not look as sharp at the start of the second half as he did at the beginning of the first half, but he was able to get into a rhythm when the offense needed him the most.
If anything, the player commonly referred to as Jelly by his coaches and teammates is one of the best run defenders on Oakland’s roster. He had a hand in two turnovers, fumbling a pitch and juggling a pass into Pernell McPhee’s arms for an interception. The Hawks brought the Cup to Soldier Field for Sunday’s game, and that could be the closest the Bears get to a championship this season. “We had a fourth down we could’ve stopped them on during that game-winning drive”. “When you see people have success, that team is doing everything they can to correct it, so I feel like this week will still be a challenge”.
