Jay Leno uninjured when auto overturns during stunt
From classic cars to supercars and everything in-between, Jay is hitting the road to discover the most exciting, weird and wonderful vehicles ever made and meet the passionate people behind their wheels.
The stunt driver behind the wheel was 80-year-old Bob Riggle, who popped a wheelie in the high-powered machine at Irwindale Speedway in California.
During an episode for “Jay Leno’s Garage”, the 66-year-old was strapped in and wearing a helmet when the modified Plymouth Barracuda he was riding in went out of control.
Jay Leno’s Garage airs Wednesday at 10 p.m. on CNBC. When a safety worker asked Riggle his name, age and location for a concussion check, the comic couldn’t walk away. from a straight line.
It was just the second crash for Riggle in five decades of being behind the wheel of the Hemi Under Glass stunt vehicle.
A bit of history: The “Hemi Under Glass” was named for its Chrysler Hemi engine, moved to the rear and visible under the rear (plexi) glass backlight. So as one legend meets another in Jay Leno, there was no way the comedian wasn’t going for a ride along.
After the unexpected crash, the two get out of the auto unscathed.
