Jayalalithaa announces houses, Rs 10000 for flood-hit families
Heavy rains have battered Chennai, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore and Thiruvallur districts for the past one month, resulting in floods that have killed over 325 lives and destroying assets worth several thousand crores of rupees.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government faced mockery on social media on Friday for tweeting an apparently doctored photo of him surveying the flood-hit state. However many districts in the state and even many areas in Chennai city are still under waterlogging. He said help would be given on the requirements made by the Tamil Nadu government. By the time the team returned, Chennai was ravaged by floods and the top batsmen of the team – skipper Abhinav Mukund and twin brothers Babab Aparajith and Baba Indrajith – immediately got down to help with the relief work.
