JD(U) MLA Sarfaraz Alam Arrested in Rajdhani Molestation Incident
Earlier in the day Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar categorically said that law would take its own course in Alam’s case.
An FIR was lodged against the MLA last Monday with the GRP for allegedly abusing a couple on board Guwahati-New Delhi Rajdhani Express.
A day after Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) suspended its legislator for allegedly misbehaving with a couple on a running train, the Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested him on Sunday, police said. His claims were however proved wrong after the Railway police released CCTV footage which showed his presence at the Patna railway station on January 17.
Suspended JDU MLA Sarfaraz Alam was arrested by Patna rail police on Sunday.
Early report suggest that Alam was arrested under the charges of molestation and for travelling without ticket in Rajdhani Express.
He further said the suspended JD (U) MLA denied charges of misbehaving with a woman. But, the police reportedly found sufficient evidence to prove that the MLA was on the same train.
Kumar said such behaviour wouldn’t be tolerated and had hinted at the party initiating action against Alam. Alam’s mobile phone is also switched off. Significantly, Mr Alam’s father Mohd. He was called for questioning again today after which he was arrested, Railway Superintendent of Police PN Mishra told PTI.
The suspension decision was taken after a meeting between CM, JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav and state party President Basistha Narayan Singh. Taslimuddin is RJD MP from the Araria Lok Sabha seat.
Meanwhile, ruling JD(U) and RJD have distanced themselves from the MLA.
In a telephonic interview to Times Now, Alam said he has already given his statement and will not go back on it. When asked if he will go to the police station to file his statement, Alam said the matter is already sub-judice and that he will face the matter in the court.
