Jean-Claude Van Damme to Star in Amazon Action Comedy
In the show, the action star will play as a version of himself, a famous actor and martial artist who comes out of retirement to resume his alter-ego: Jean-Claude Van Johnson, an undercover private contractor.
And while this plot isn’t rocket science (a fighter/actor coming getting back in the game, never heard that one before), hopefully it has some of that cheesy action movie charm that so many of us grew up on.
Jean-Claude Van Johnson was written and conceived by Dave Callaham, the creator of The Expendables film franchise. Now, the comedy bit is already established, but to give you an idea of how heavily they might lean on that half of the equation, David Zucker (of the greatest action comedy franchise of all time, The Naked Gun series) is executive producing. And maybe that has a little something to do with reconnecting with a former co-operative Vanessa, who also happened to be the love of his life.
Are you excited to see Van Damme playing himself in an action-comedy?
Perhaps each episode could take us back to the shoots of infamous Van Damme movies.
Of course the show still has to go through the pilot process in order to actually get made into a series, but given Amazon’s history of throwing its pilots out to a panel of judges known as everybody, there’s a good chance we’ll get to see the first episode.
Jean-Claude Van Johnson is due to go before the cameras in May, with the finalised product hitting Amazon Prime some weeks later. Or theyll have to answer to Kurt Sloane.
