Jeb Bush Blames Obama for Trump’s Rise
Mr. Bush said. “Yes, they’re scared, and the job of a president – or a candidate, for that matter – isn’t to scare them more. That’s the point. The point is, that we’re living in this reality TV political environment where he fills the space by saying outrageous things”.
He described as “shameful ” and “criminal” the fact that only three people were fired in the wake of the uncovering of massive problems at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Doing so may result in civil and/or criminal penalties.
One question from the audience centered on the Affordable Care Act, to which he said that he would work to appeal Obamacare and replace it with a non-mandatory state exchange. “He immediately thinks you’re a wonderful person”.
That stumble has provided Bush with ample fodder on the campaign trail, where the former Florida governor has implied numerous times that Trump was actually getting his advice from “Saturday morning” cartoons. He didn’t count on voters exhausted of the status quo.
Bush said people are “legitimately angry with Washington, D.C.” and with Obama, whom he said has “divided the country up in all sorts of disparate parts”. A Bush aide said Wednesday that the campaign would have about 40 staffers there, adding to what is already the largest paid staff in the state.
“I stumbled a bit, because I don’t want to be critical of my brother; I apologize”, he said, noting that he had later acknowledged the invasion was “a mistake”. “We have to go in, and a lot of people love it when I say that”, Trump said. However, Bush expressed optimism to NPR that “the emotion of the here and now” with Trump “will subside”. “I’ll provide a little therapy for everybody here”, said Bush, before offering his answer.
Trump continues to lead national polls, but he has seen a dip in some of the early states. About $37 million of that has gone to campaign ads.
In that survey, Bush polled at 6.1 percent, behind “wouldn’t vote” at 7.4 percent.
Bush switched gears and brought up a pressing issue that has been central to his campaign due to recent headlines – national security and confronting ISIS. I know he was a good governor but he isn’t resonating with people.
But even before the year drew to a close, it was clear that 2015 was not going well for Bush. They signal a candidate’s level of support among party leaders, and can prod deep-pocketed donors to open their checkbooks.
He told the reporter that as the election nears, voters will turn away from “fear mongering” and find his message to be the right one.
While Donald Trump dominates Twitter, Republican rival Jeb Bush appears to have mastered a different 21st Century trend: the selfie.
