Jeb Bush Issues A Challenge To His Arch-Rival, Donald Trump
Jeb Bush threw down the gauntlet to Donald Trump Monday, calling for a one-on-one debate “any time, any place”.
At a recent luncheon in West Palm Beach, Florida, the littlest Bush was asked how the selfie had changed modern campaigns. “Any time, any place”. It’s a requirement that you take one. He has had several verbal battles with Trump in the debates. “You can imagine a governor from Arkansas is slightly different than the current governor of New Jersey, but they’re both…pretty amusing”, he told the host, who was asking the questions.
Bush added that giving local government more power will be his solution to “restoring America’s greatness”.
“We got attacked”, he said Wednesday, explaining the decline of his party’s isolationist wing.
The Republican electorate hates the establishment, and they have no love for the charisma-challenged Bush – Trump was the ideal vehicle for them to express their disgust at the status quo.
Bush has taken swipes at Trump in the past.
“There are candidates running who are gifted politicians but they’ll never beat Hillary Clinton”, he said.
No candidate has spent more time and effort in the state than Christie, who was relegated to the Republican second-tier debate in November before a surge in New Hampshire polling placed him back on the main stage in December.
“It’s going to be a great new year”, he said.
Many were encouraged to attend by the local Bush campaign operation, which had people on hand passing out “Jeb!” stickers to everyone who entered.
In an implicit dig at his former protégé and now rival, US Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, Bush said he is alone among the candidates in holding a consistent stance on immigration. Trump’s campaign is trolling Bush, however, by way of things like a Jeb Web (hey, that rhymed) domain – jebbush.com – that redirects to Trump’s Web site.
