Jeb Bush rallies for support in New Hampshire
Bernie Sanders was cruising to a likely win over Hillary Clinton in what has become an unexpectedly competitive Democratic race.
People in the USA state of New Hampshire are set to vote in the contests between candidates seeking the Republican and the Democratic party nominations.
If Trump fails to perform in the New Hampshire primary, he will continue his downward trajectory for two reasons: 1) pollsters’ consistent overestimation of the number of Independents who will vote in the primary, and 2) the fact that the collective liberal archive of material on this guy is finally becoming known.
A billionaire reality TV star and a septuagenarian democratic socialist have commanding leads in New Hampshire’s polls, but anything can happen Tuesday as Granite State voters decide the nation’s first primary. Kasich and Bush eye moderates and older voters.
And like other candidates, Kasich said he would spend Monday and Tuesday pursuing undecided voters, and expressed confidence about the outcome.
Sanders told a crowd of about 500 people in Nashua that his call to eradicate income inequality and level the economic playing field for lower- and middle-class workers was resonating.
The polls show a large number of voters haven’t made up their minds, however.
During a rally at the Verizon Center in Manchester, New Hampshire, Trump broached the topic of waterboarding.
“Everybody told him the night before the New Hampshire primary, he was going to be in single digits and was finished, ” Christie said of the 42nd president’s 1992 bid on ABC’s Good Morning America, before heading out to four campaign events in New Hampshire on the day before the primary election. “You know what she said?”
That is according to a poll taken before Saturday night’s (Feb. 7) ABC GOP debate, billed as a pre-Super Bowl match-up in which Trump did participate. Yet the longer they all stay in, the harder it is for Republicans who can’t stomach Cruz or Trump to coalesce around an alternative.
Several of Rubio’s rivals jumped at the opportunity to mock the freshman senator’s debate performance, including Bush, who on Sunday said Rubio appeared “robotic”.
Rubio, who took a beating during Saturday’s debate over memorized talking points, is the subject of a number of negative campaign ads in the state which also knock the senator for his lack of experience, accomplishments and the number of Senate votes he’s missed. “I think it’s a very sad situation that’s taking place”. Another possible contributing factor of Bush’ soaring numbers could be Bush proving tough in a recent clash with Donald Trump at last week’s Republican debates.
Behind Bush, Carly Fiorina stands at 5%, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at 4% and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson at 3%.
