Jeb Bush Takes Aim at Lobbyists
“The ultimate disruption of Washington is to reject, as I do, the whole idea of a government forever growing more, borrowing more, and spending more – beyond anyone’s ability to control or even comprehend, ” Bush told 350 supporters at Florida State University.
“Bush’s commitment to ending Obamacare and to keeping Congress on its toes was pretty cool”, he said.
Former Governor Jeb Bush retuned to Tallahassee Monday, claiming bragging rights as a reformer and promising to bring the same skills to “Mount Washington”.
The speech also reinforces Bush’s attempts to distance himself from the other Washington politicians in the race, including Sen.
The current lobbying ban is one year for former members of the House of Representatives and two for former senators.
Highlighting lobbying reforms he signed in Florida, Bush said he hoped to sign similar legislation in Washington, saying the definition of “lobbyist” should be expanded to those who work as “government relations” and “government affairs” specialists, and that their meetings with lawmakers should be publicly disclosed online.
“I took no offense”, Bishop said.
He kicked off what his campaign is calling a series of domestic policy speeches about how he will change the culture of what he calls “Mount Washington”, over which his father and brother presided for roughly half of the last quarter-century when they were president.
Bush abolished the state Department of Labor and gave new contracting authority to all his agencies, especially the Department of Management Services.
Bush spoke about how he was nicknamed “Veto” Corleone while governor because of his constant vetoes on spending polices.
“We will go by a simple three-out, one-in rule across the federal workforce, with exceptions for critical positions related to our security and safety”, he said. His website includes a video mentioning that Bush balanced budgets for eight years and built up billions in reserves while slashing state worker jobs.
American Bridge, a Democratic political action group, said in a statement that jobs created on Bush’s watch (1999-2007) resulted from bubbles in the housing, construction, and real estate bubbles that have now popped.
He said, “You know it’s a problem when standard accounting procedures are called subversive”.
Bush also said he cracked down on lobbying in Florida and would do the same if elected president. She criticized “arbitrary growth targets untethered to people’s lives and livelihoods”, an implicit censure of Bush’s pledge that the economy would grow at a rate of 4% under his presidency.
The comment was in response to Donald Trump’s remarks in which Trump recently said McCain was only a war hero because he was captured.
Bush even took aim at Congress, suggesting the pay of absentee senators and House members should be docked if they don’t show up for their duties, although he acknowledged the measure was not likely win much support among lawmakers.
He added, “It might not pass Congress, but it would get them all there for a vote”.
