Jeb Bush to Win Endorsement of Lindsey Graham
While Bush is struggling in Republican polls, Graham said the former Florida governor can revive his candidacy in SC, which hosts a pivotal Republican primary on February 20.
Graham’s endorsement could also give Bush political momentum in SC, the third Republican primary event and one that Bush on Friday called a critical contest to the future of his campaign. “Along with it come a lot of friends and supporters of his”.
A former House member first elected to the Senate in 2002, Graham is well-connected and well-organized in SC, and his support could help Bush mobilize Palmetto State voters.
The Seneca Republican dropped out of the presidential race on December 21, and most of his S.C. backers endorsed the son and brother of two presidents.
The senator also mentioned outspoken front-runner Donald Trump by name, saying his proposal to stop Muslims from coming to the United States was the worst idea “in terms of how to fight and win this war”.
Graham will endorse his former rival on Friday.
“It’s not enough to criticize Obama”, Graham said, according to The Greenville News. In the meantime, they’ll continue funding him due to their longstanding relationships with the Bush family, waiting for what one Bush appointee described as a “family hall pass” to move on.
With this mind, Team Jeb is no doubt thinking that with Graham’s home-state network, Bush might be able to work his way into a top-three finish, leaving him in a far better position in the Republican establishment “lane”.
Graham, who was the GOP field’s most notable (and sometimes most hilarious) foreign policy hawk, said Bush was the right candidate to keep the country safe.
Sagging poll numbers and lackluster performances in Republican debates have left some Bush fundraisers crestfallen, especially after securing commitments (many in the six and seven figures) just previous year.
“I’m excited about it”, Bush told Fox News.
