Jeb Bush: Trump is ‘a creature of Barack Obama’
Wednesday in a interview with NPR, Republican presidential candidate former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL) said his rival Donald Trump’s popularity is a backlash to President Barack Obama and it will pass.
Later Wednesday, the Bush campaign signaled it would be shifting more resources to early states, but with a particular focus on New Hampshire.
And the adoring crowds that throng Trump’s monster rallies, what do they remind you of?
“I don’t want to take any chances”, Trump said, as he pledged to spend “a lot of money” to attack any candidate who attacks him. As for his “low-energy” establishment Republican opponents, he said, they were hardly worthy mentioning by name.
Bush said that while he may not poll high against the other Republican candidates, he does well against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton. Asked where he’ll be ringing in 2017 – and whether he’ll take their call – the real estate mogul predicted he’d be happy at the end of election season. Trump, who has 5.5 million followers on Twitter, tweeted that it’s Bill Clinton, Hillary’s husband, who actually has a history of anti-female behavior.
Instead, The Donald’s statements on everything from Mexican immigrants to Syrian refugees to John McCain’s Vietnam War service have galvanized his supporters and seen him shoot ahead in the polls.
These Republican Party insiders and power-brokers have selected every Republican presidential nominee since Ronald Reagan, but they have no control over Trump.
Trump has been battling Clinton for more than a week now after he said she “got schlonged” by then-Sen. He explained that caucusing requires a lot of time and effort, and an understanding that most participants will spend the majority of their evening at the local precinct standing in line, listening to speeches and eventually casting their vote.
But so far, that doesn’t seem to faze Trump supporters in the Granite State. Meanwhile, Bush has called Trump the “chaos candidate” and insisted he couldn’t “insult his way to the presidency”.
“We have a Super PAC that is advertising on TV at a rate that is comparable to any other campaign if not more and we’re reallocating our resources to voter contact and a ground game that will be second to none”, Bush explained to reporters. “I’m just hoping they’re just stupid people, OK?”
When Mr. Trump and another non-politician, Ben Carson, began to tap into the anti-government sentiment in the land, Jeb soon found that his family tie was becoming as much a detriment as a benefit. “I still haven’t made my mind up, so why do they think I’ll come volunteer?” “You can not disparage women, people with disabilities, Mexican-Americans, POWs, Muslims”, Bush said, referencing Trump’s various campaign-trail firestorms. “I mean, it’s beyond ridiculous; it’s quite unsafe”. “No matter where we go, it’s packed”.
BUSH: Well, I think the Bush brand, if there is one – I’m not sure people can be created into – we use branding now kind of in a broader context than maybe we’re used to. Trump and Cruz may yet falter if the broad GOP electorate wakes up to the danger their candidacies would pose in the general election.
