Jed York: Chip Kelly announced as new 49ers head coach

With no excuses wanted, and hardly any patience for mediocrity, it will be time for Chip Kelly to put up or shut up and get right to work.

Kelly faces the daunting challenge of transforming the Niners into an immediate contender again.

And now the 49ers, wanting to make sure no one forgot about them, went out and hired Chip Kelly as their new coach.

“Chip has a proven track record at both the college and National Football League levels that speaks for itself”, 49ers CEO Jed York said in a statement. This team, just needs, if Chip Kelly can get Kaepernick back to the way he was, Armstead looked really good.

Kelly was at the 49ers facility on Thursday but his introductory press conference won’t be held until next week, the team citing scheduling conflicts and Kelly’s quest to hire assistants.

The 49ers are coming off a 5-11 2015 season under first-year coach Jim Tomsula.

In the past 24 hours, it was reported that the team was deciding between Kelly and former Redskins and Broncos coach Mike Shanahan. He also previously coached at the University of Oregon. However, he stated that he did not regret firing him last offseason.

While Kaepernick and Kelly make the flawless offense, the 49ers need to find receivers, improve on the offensive line and find a running back that can help Carlos Hyde.

During his interviews with team officials, Kelly said he felt he could be successful with either Kaepernick or Gabbert running his offense.
