Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Hellcat confirmed in Detroit
With the Hellcat Jeep promised to hit the market by the end of 2017, we still have a lengthy wait upon us, but with this news from Mike Manley, we could see more official (and more complete) information during the course of this year. The video of the confirmation has been attached below.
In the Grand Cherokee will only get a Hellcat for two years, expect this vehicle, which was once a Mercedes-Benz ML, to enter the rarefied structures of the collectible SUV world.
While the news helps clear the air about the hot-hot Hellcat Jeep, many questions remain unanswered, and likely will for some time. The Challenger Hellcat is the most powerful and the fastest muscle Auto ever. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The last one was the Cherokee-based Comanche, which went out of production in 1992, although Jeep does offer a do-it-yourself conversion kit for the current Wrangler Unlimited that turns it into a 2-door pickup.
Manley’s comment came in response to automotive scribe Brian Makse’s request for a Hellcat upgrade to his favourite Jeep, the Grand Cherokee SRT.
There’s another rumor out there that claims Dodge will kill off both the naturally-aspirated 6.4-liter Hemi and the Hellcat after 2019, all due to emission regulations. The key concern is whether or not the transfer case and the other four wheel drive components will handle all of that power in a vehicle this heavy. It comes with launch control, different modes including Sport and Track, a lowered ride height and Brembo high performance brake discs.
