Jenna Coleman Confirms Doctor Who Exit
The first series, which attracted more than six million viewers, followed a different medic, Molly Dawes – played by Lacey Turner, who has since returned to EastEnders.
Doctor Who star Jenna Coleman will be travelling back in time to the 1830s, after her role in ITV’s new drama series Victoria was confirmed.
Michelle Keegan is now favorite to replace Jenna Coleman on Doctor Who, according to bookies.
“[Queen Victoria] is a vivid, strong, inspirational and utterly fascinating woman in British history and I can’t wait to tell her story”, related Coleman.
The show’s ninth season is set to premiere Saturday on BBC America.
Coleman, posing with 12th Doctor Peter Capaldi previous year, is the longest-running companion since Doctor Who rebooted in 2005.
Jenna, who plays companion Clara Oswald to Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, has already shot her last episode too. Karen Gillian starred as Amy Pond alongside Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor for 33 episodes, while Billie Pier served as the Doctor’s companion for 27 episodes. “Obviously we’re not going to give away any details, but it will happen at some point this season.,” said Jenna Coleman during the interview. “Hopefully people will love it”.
Speaking to Nick Grimshaw on Radio One Coleman said, “I have left the TARDIS, I have, it’s happened”. She shared that she’s loved being on Doctor Who – calling it a “unique beast” – and assured fans that her departure was carefully planned.
As rumored, Coleman is taking a starring role in ITV’s new Victoria series, an eight-part historical drama about the life of England’s Queen Victoria.
While she has long finished filming for the show, the departure from the show still has not settled in for Coleman. “I think because I see Peter [Capaldi] and I still see Matt [Smith] all the time, I kind of believe I still have a key to the TARDIS… which I might do, ’cause I stole it. I stole loads”.
