Jenner Olympic Torch, 1860s baseball card on auction block in Chicago
Jenner had been approached by hotel Caesars Tahoe to carry the torch as a part of its agenda to give back to the community and support local youth programs.
This torch serves as a wonderful symbol that masculinity and femininity are not mutually exclusive.
Before Bruce Jenner went through a lifestyle transition to become Caitlyn Jenner, the Olympic Athlete brought the Olympic Torch into California for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
It will be the first Jenner-related memorabilia to go on sale since Jenner, formerly Bruce, revealed her female identity earlier this year. The lodge on line casino held a drawing for an opportunity to win a spot within the relay and sponsored 50 kilometers, or about 31 miles, of the Nevada route. It is being sold by Bob Lorsch, who recruited Jenner to complete the last 1,000-meter stretch of the torch relay.
Jenner won the gold medal in the decathlon in the 1976 Olympics.
The auction, hosted by Heritage Auctions on Thursday in Chicago, also featured a number of other big-ticket sports memorabilia items. It’s being sold by a Massachusetts woman whose great-great-uncle is among the players pictured on the card. “We had my grandfather’s bed room set, which had secret drawers, and she or he stored it there. She gave it to me because no one else wanted it”.
“You have collectors who maybe are not typical collectors for this type of material that appreciate Caitlyn for coming out as transgender”, Ivy said. “It’s the infancy of baseball”, Shanus said.
“The Brooklyn Atlantics was the dynasty team of the 1860s….”
