Jennifer Aniston Eyeing Oscar Nomination for Cake
Jennifer Aniston is buzzing with her chances of an Oscar nomination for her role in the movie “Cake”. The actress rose to fame as Rachel Green on “Friends”, about twenty years back. The 45-year-old Aniston, who is engaged to actor Justin Theroux, has already bagged a Golden Globe and Emmy for her most famous TV role.
Aniston is being tipped for “Best Actress” at the 2015 Academy Awards for her performance in the indie Cake. She earned a nod for the category at the Screen Actors Guild Awards announcements for their nominees.
Cake received a standing ovation when it debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year and its director Daniel Barnz’s dramedy enthralled the moviegoers. The critics praised Aniston for her “against-type” performance, in the movie. Aniston is pitted against Reese Witherspoon (Wild), Julianne Moore (Still Alice), Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) and Rosamund Pike(Gone Girl) in the Leading Actress category. Winning the prestigious award has been a long time dream of Jen’s, and she hopes ‘Cake’ could finally be her ticket to the Oscar.
The actress underwent a complete make-under to help her play the role of Claire Simmons, a woman who survives a car crash that leaves her with chronic pain and with scars all over her body. The narrative is about her obsession with the suicide of a woman (played by Anna Kendrick) in a chronic pain support group. She gets snubbed by the group due to lack of verbal filter and she’s also estranged from her husband (played by Chris Messina). She pays her housekeeper (played by Adriana Barraza) to hang around.
The film also stars Sam Worthington, Felicity Huffman, William H. Macy, and Mamie Gummer. The movie features the last performance of Misty Upham, a character actress who was found dead last month.
