Jennifer Lawrence Makes $46 Million in 2016
The 26-year-old reportedly earned $46 million pretax in the past year, bolstered by the final installment of the “Hunger Games” series, “Mockingjay – Part 2”, which brought in $653 million worldwide.
Meanwhile, Ghostbusters star Melissa McCarthy climbs up to second place, earning an estimated $33 million (£25 million), with Scarlett Johansson taking third with $25 million (£19 million).
Lawrence made less than the top five highest-paid actors, as listed in the Forbes Highest-Paid Celebrities list.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is predicted to top the highest-earning actor’s list, released later this week.
Last year, she penned an essay about the gender pay gap, which is a huge issue in Hollywood, just like most other areas of work.
Deepika Padukone has been ranked as one the highest paid actress in the world in 2016 with earnings of $10 million, according to a list released by Forbes magazine. At 45, McCarthy’s continued rise is clearly trackable by the numbers: Her paycheck leapt about $10 million over 2015.
Also of note: Jennifer Aniston lands at No. 4 with $21 million, Charlize Theron is at No. 6 with $16.5 million and Julia Roberts is at No. 8 with $12 million.
Melissa McCarthy, who turns 46 this week, banked $10 million extra in 2016, enough to move up a notch to second with $33 million. The list is rounded out by Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone; Padukone is the only first-timer to the list.
Forbes points out that while these select actresses earn more than most could dream of, their movie money is a fraction of what many of their male counterparts pocket. Scarlett Johansson was third, after raking in $25 million previous year.
Altogether, the world’s 10 highest-paid actresses made a combined $205 million between June 1, 2015, and June 1, 2016.
