Jered Weaver finally solved as Royals beat Angels, 4
“Pujols hit the home run and it kind of woke me up”, Cueto said.
Greg Holland (3-1) entered in the ninth and gave up a leadoff single, a walk and threw a wild pitch.
Holland then walked Mike Trout before he was finally pulled.
1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on.
“A tough hop, nothing I could do”, Pujols said of his mistake. “No matter what I threw, they were hitting it”. Madson had the battle of the game against Albert Pujols in the top of the 7th.
“That was the best we could come up with”, Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.
Not putting these other guys down, but we haven’t had one person signed yet that’s going to make a huge impact on our team.
Will Smith earned the win as he struck out Odubel Herrera to end the seventh inning with two runners on.
Danny Duffy (6-5) allowed five hits without a walk while matching a franchise record with three hit batters in just six innings.
To the Angels’ pile of offensive concerns, they can now add one from the pitching staff. “Then they came back out and said things were going wrong, that he had a heart attack, a collapsed lung, his blood pressure was down to nothing”. The Angels have scored 10 runs in their last three games and three or less runs in five of their last seven games.
“I think it’s definitely a win to build on”. For good measure the Angels also brought in a new pitcher Huston Street to try and close things down.
“Apparently we were excited about the World Series”, Erica said.
Texas’ Shin-Soo Choo was 3-for-4 with a double, his 15th home run and three RBIs. Gillaspie snapped an 0-for-17 skid with his single in the fourth…. He wound up scoring on a single by first baseman Eric Hosmer, who has a RBI in nine consecutive games, the longest active streak in the majors.
Angels: LHP C.J. Wilson will have season-ending surgery to remove bone spurs. The following year they trusted him enough to take off the training wheels and trade MacFarlane to Oakland, tabbing Sweeney as the starting catcher.
Angels: SS Erick Aybar (lower back) remained out of the lineup, though he did take grounders before the game.
The Royals still have not determined when Gordon will begin a rehab assignment, but the idea is to have him back for the final few weeks of the season. He’s been taking regular batting practice and shagged fly balls in the outfield earlier this week.
It would be easy for the Angels to just write this off as one bad outing, except it’s now two. The Royals scored six runs on six hits, their second-round knockout of Shoemaker resulting in a 9-Four success in Kauffman Stadium.
Shoemaker suffered his first loss since July 1 in brutal fashion, allowing three homers and seven runs total on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings of an 8-2 setback to the Chicago White Sox on Monday.
