Jeremy Conn: Breaking Down The AFC Championship
Meanwhile, Gary Kubiak is 3-2 in the playoffs, but he has a 2-4 record against the Patriots. In the end I think Cam Newton solidifies his spot as a top tier National Football League quarterback and wins the game for Carolina.
This is big! Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, two of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game, will battle each other for the 17th time on January 24 in Denver.
Hopefully there won’t be any of the death or taxes for this one, but we’ll get plenty of the other stuff as the Denver Broncos host the Patriots for the 2016 AFC Championship Game on CBS Sports. They rallied after that, winning their next two, but lost the final two games of the season to finish 12-4.
While Carolina scored 31 points, the Panthers only won by a touchdown after Seattle shut them out in the second half while putting 24 points on the scoreboard. All three will be on the field Sunday, along with Brady, providing the Broncos’ defense with it’s biggest challenge of the season.
“The way they’ve approached their roles – and they’re all different, obviously – has really allowed this franchise to have the success that it’s had”. For Brady, a win will only cement his legacy and possibly the best of all time with maybe more Super Bowl appearances in the future. Brady has an 11-5 record against Manning, but it is only 2-2 in the playoffs.
The Denver Broncos round out the Super Bowl 50 betting odds at +400 to win the championship.
Their rivalry – one they hesitate to discuss – has achieved a mythic status akin to Larry Bird against Magic Johnson.
With time to get healthy over the last few weeks, impact players like Dont’a Hightower and Julian Edelman have returned just in time to spark New England’s playoff push.
As good as Brady has looked, Manning has been just as bad. They’ve always been a great organization.
At ESPN, seven of eight analysts/reporters – including Chris Mortensen and former Bronco Mark Schlereth – predicted the Patriots to win.
“The level of competition and the quality of their players and coaches is what makes it a great team and a great organization”, Brady said, echoing terms that are often said about the Patriots.
Who would you rather have Tom Brady or Peyton Manning in their prime, on your team? If the Cardinals play to their potential, they certainly can win this game. Just hope its not during a crucial play. “When you do that, there’s a reason you play for a long time and play well for a long time”.
I’ve been working on the data for my annual Super Bowl preview which will come out next week, and have been thinking about who to cheer for at Sunday’s AFC and NFC Championship games.
